You will enjoy the classical ensemble of Senat Square with its legendary "Bronze Horseman", the St. Isaac Cathedral and the building of the Senate and the Synod, the cathedral's cupola and the spire of the Admiralty and many other architectural monuments.

ST. PETER AND PAUL FORTRESS - situated on a small island in the mouth of the Neva river was chosen by Peter the Great to lay the foundation of St. Petersburg. It became Russia's outpost in the Northern War against Sweden. The city's oldest building and the burial site of every czar since Peter the Great. Peter imprisoned (and later executed) his son Alexis in the fortress. Other famous prisoners were Dostoyevsky, Gorky and Lenin's brother. The Fortress is a lovely place to walk around in the late evening during White Nights.
